Church of São João Baptista

The Church of São João Baptista is located in Pero Moniz.

In spatial terms, the interior follows the common typology. Single nave with three panel covering, high-choir with wooden balustrade above the entrance, baptistery on the Gospel side with baptismal font and hexagonal dome, side door and pulpit with rectangular section and wooden balustrade on the same side, holy water fonts on the right side of the building’s entrances and rectangular window on the Epistle side, full triumphal arch. As for the imagery patrimony, stand out the polychrome stone statues of São João Baptista, Santa Luzia and São Sebastião, dated from the 15th and 16th centuries, front facing and denoting great rigidity, with developed members and attributes, which are formal characteristics of the imagery from a period of austere intentionality.
