'Convento Dominicano' Ruins
No cume da Serra de Montejunto, próximo da ermida de Nossa Senhora das Neves, encontram-se vestígios do primeiro convento da Ordem de São Domingos em Portugal.
The first Convent from the Order of São Domingos, built in the beginning of the 13th century, more specifically in the year 1218, not long after the arrival of friar Soeiro Gomes to our country. The ruins that can be found nowadays are actually dated from the 18th century, however, still a magnificent monument worth visiting.
In 2004 and 2005, the Câmara Municipal do Cadaval, under the supervision of the Municipal Museum, led the evaluation and investigation works that uncovered the ancient structures that were a mystery until then. Amongst the findings, are highlighted the Chinese ceramics and porcelain used by the Dominican monks.
Along the mountain slope can still be seen the cobblestone path that gave access to the Convent, known as Calçada dos Frades.
